In this occasion BJP Leader Ashok Sharma said that the turnover of Jan Aushadhi medicine was Rs 1,000 crore, which is equivalent to nearly Rs 7,000 crore of branded medicine sales, since medicines available under Jan Aushadhi schemes are 40~90 % less costlier than otherwise available in market. Anand Kaushik, President, Indraprastha said, “We urged people to adopt jan aushadhi which is 50~80% cheaper than normal medicines available in the market. The ingredients and formula of the medicines are important, so we educate people to look for the salt name and not the generic name of the medicines, which could be costlier. Thus, one can save money on alternative medicines.” It is true that branded medicines of reputed manufacturers are generally very costly, whereas equivalent medicine at Jan Aushadhi Kendra are available at lower prices, whereas salt and formula of medicine are the same, and have the same treatment effect. Nidhi Gupta, Vice President, ADRF rightly echoed, “The salt and formula of these generic medicines is same as that of other medicines, thus the medicine quality is also same. These jan aushadhi medicines pass through three stages of quality checks, at manufacturing, packing and despatch stage. The distribution and logistics normally increase the overall cost of medicines of branded companies, thus these jan aushadhi medicines are cheaper. These medicines must reach everyone.” Rajesh Gehlot, ex MLA, who was present on the occasion said, “I would like to thank our PM Narendra Modi for starting this initiative, and Robin Sharma for actively involved in spreading the awareness about the jan aushadhi program. These medicines are made available to the poor and middle class at affordable prices. He had given immense thought on this scheme how to make medicines available at cheaper cost for the public at large. It is a revolution that the PM has brought in and we profusely thank our PM. There is a misconception in the minds of people about the quality of medicines but I must tell you that since salt and formulation are the same, hence the medicines are the same and of equivalent quality. People should shed fear and buy these medicines which are lighter on your pocket.” To allay further fears, Kamal Kumar, a customer informed, “I always take medicine from this kendra. I am diabetic, so what medicine I normally get at a chemist for say Rs 200, it’s equivalent is available here for Rs 40. I can vouch that it is equally effective.”

Khushi, a student of class VII thanked prime minister for coming up with this idea and making jan aushadhi available to public, while Rahul, a class VIII student informed that his mother was a sugar patient and unwell and
whole of family income was going in her treatment, but with availability of similar medicine at lesser cost, the family was able to save money.
Women’s power -
Women power day was celebrated as women are the major stakeholders in the health and well being of the family. In today’s world, fast and hectic lifestyle coupled with pollution and tension at work place has created havoc with the health of normal women and they are down with some or other ailment. Most women take care of the family but neglect their own health. Thus this day was dedicated to women who can buy generic medicines and take care of their health. In the event organised, all well known ladies
of Dwarka were present and few were felicitated. Sandhya Singh of Durga Saptashati Foundation said, “The day achieved its objective and created awareness among women on jan aushadhi. These medicines are nearly 70% cheaper than equivalent medicines available in the market. The womenfolk must pay attention towards this, as they are the main backbone of the family and normally manages the affairs of the family. They need iron and calcium”. In today’s world, fast and hectic lifestyle coupled with pollution and tension at work place has created havoc with the health of normal citizens and they are down with some or other ailment. Especially after covid scare two years back, people have to shell out a lot of money on medicines, and the drug manufacturers on other hand are raking in a good money. Common man has to think twice on how to balance his daily expenses with the additional burden of the cost of medicines. Sometimes, many drugs are not affordable at all for certain grievous ailments and diseases and many people even die for want of medicines. This is truly a miserable state for many common people especially of lower strata. 5 years back, the Prime Minister and Govt of India realised the plight being faced by common citizens of India, and thereby started the initiative of offering medicines at affordable and lesser price to the public at large through Jan Aushadhi scheme. However, the knowledge and awareness about availability of such generic medicines is not much in the public domain, and hence many people are still bereft of getting these medicines. The week long celebration was a big success and at least awareness has been spread to a large extend amongst residents.
