E-Banner (solar based) is an alternative to Flex board!

Raja Suresh is a young ecopreneur from Andhra Predesh. He did his Masters from JNTUA, Ananthapuramu. Presently working as a Chairman & Managing Director of Ekalavya Innovative Solutions Pvt. Ltd Tirupathi. An innovative Engineer, he was chosen as "Bright Idea Innovator" for his idea in DSIR sponsored Hackathon on Technological Innovations and Entrepreneurship Education. He is a member of IEEE. South Express interviewed him about his novel idea to replace the use and throw FLEX BAORD which has become a menace now.

South Express (SE) Please explain your alternative to flex board?

RAJA SURESH (RS) My invention is called ‘Solar Powered Economical and Environment Friendly E-Banner’. It is an Exclusive Sustainable Green Approach. This is my invention. It means electronic banners. Precisely the present invention is directed to a cost-effective environment-friendly solar-powered electronic banner for displaying information and advertisements in a public place. This will replace the plastic banners at a very low cost. Organizations like colleges, shops, shopping malls, function halls, and bill boards, this can operate by using the Internet.

SE: What about durability?

RS: It can be reusable for 12 years

SE: Is it easy to handle?

RS: Yes. Of course. It is a smart technology. User can easily preview the advertisements and correct errors. At a time, he can manage more than 2 ads. He also can have on hands ad control from anywhere around the globe. User will  have option to  change Day/Night brightness to save energy

SE: How much is its price?

RS: One time cost of this Solar Based Smart Banner is Rs. 1,14,500 per 12 years. So the annual cost works out to Rs 9,542.

SE: Initial investment cost is higher. How do you think it's affordable?

RS: It is cheaper than Flex or vinyl boards. Let me put it like this. A vinyl banner has PVC content of 900 gsm (grams per square meter). Average dimension of a flex banner requires PVC of 414 grams. If a small organization requires 200 banners in a year, PVC required in a year is 82.8 Kilograms. Approximate cost of a standard banner is Rs.400. If a college requires 200 banners per year.it works out to Rs 80,000 annually, whereas my expected cost per annum id Rs 9542/- as explained above. It is reusable for 12 years.

SE: For those who can't afford an initial capital cost of Rs 1.14 lac, what's your suggestion?

RS: They can opt for rental also. Per day each advertisement cost 70/-, for 10 sec video cost 120/- (estimated cost). NGOs and social organisations who cannot afford many hire from us.

SE: How did you think of designing this?

RS: Banner is basically a piece of cloth/flex bearing a slogan or design or information or images hung in a public place. The basic objective of the banner is to spread information among the public. Presently, the banners are primarily prepared by using plastic and it is leading to major disposal problems effecting the environment. Of late, plastic uses have increased in advertising. This must be stopped

SE: Is there anyone who participates in this venture?

RS: Yes, We are got support from IIIT sricity, EIR Grant.

SE: Is it in curative stage? Or already sale started?

RS: Proof of concept (PoC) is ready for submission. We have completed 70% of R&D. We are ready to launch the product with minimal features first

SE: Do you plan any other product?

RS: Yes, we have developed a new product. This envisages charging mobile phones and tabs by using solar power. One can move out without chargers or power banks. It is just a removable attachment, very handy. Yes, we are talking about solar-powered mobile jackets which includes a cover, where solar panels are integrated into the back panel. A microcontroller-based circuit board is coupled to the solar panel and an output jack connecting to the mobile device which charges the mobile are attached to the mobile.

SE: How did you get Govt help?

RS: Yes, for e-Banner project, we got support from IIIR Sri City, EIR Grant of Rs 4 lac and for Mobile Jacket, we got Rs 15 lac from Start-up India Seed fund

SE: About Environment, what is your view?

RS: When we save the environment, the environment also saves our lives.
